Making Your Letters More Autumnal // + A Mini Photoshoot

HI THERE!

I was starting to write a letter today after I bought a few things at Hobby Lobby (“the Hob Lob” as we call it) and I wanted to make it very fallish. It seems like Christmas is just around the corner, a few people I know have decorated! So I definitely want to squeeze as much fall in as I can.

Letter writing is a great way to do that!

I though I would share with y’all some of the small things that make your letters pop with the seasons in simple ways.

NO. 1 Toned card + envelopes

Hobby Lobby, one of my favorite places, has a nice selection of packeted cards and envelopes. They have these nice rectangular brown ones there now (50%, too!) that I got earlier. They’re a nice difference from the regular white, and when you do reds and oranges on them, the brown looks so nice and fallish!

IMG_8708

NO. 2 Colored pens

these are a great way to make your cards and envelopes pop and immediately remind you of fall. I always go for reds, oranges, browns and greens.

Below: Tombow Dual Brush Pens

IMG_8714.JPG

I made a quick, simple card using the bullet end of a dual brush pen for the words and the brush end for the leaves.

IMG_8713.JPG
Sorry this is blurry! My back screen wouldn’t show that well before I put it in the envelope!

I got those two front plaid wash tapes at Hobby Lobby earlier. I thought the would be fun to use through the fall and winter months in my bullet journal and on letters.

NO. 3 Tapes or stickers

These are affordable, long-lasting touches for your letters. The fun patterns and widths are just so fun to see on envelopes in the mailbox, and they’re fun to put on everything.

IMG_8711.JPG

NO. 4 Tiny tidbits and fun things

Fall themed stickers, papers, poems, Artist Trading Cards (ATC’s), paintings, cutouts, etc. are fun touches to put inside a letter when it doesn’t seem like enough. There is usually always some fun little thing to add a little more joy to the letter when it is opened.

IMG_8718.JPG

NO. 5 Colorful envelopes

I kept the envelope pretty simple, but the reds and the plaid make it stand out. You can draw a box around the address in bright colors, paint, sketch, anything. It’s so fun to personalize the mail!

IMG_8719.JPG

The last thing I got from the good ‘ole Hob Lob was a new wax seal stamp. The whole stamp pin came off of my old one, so I figured I should upgrade(: I got the heart stamp, and I really like it!

NO. 6 Wax seals

These are my favorite part. I don’t do it every time, but I really enjoy choosing the colors. (I bought this from Amazon. Great buy!)

I used a gold over the wide plaid washout tape I got. It turned out pretty! A very simple and easy way to make your envelope fancy and pretty.

IMG_8722.JPG

IMG_8726.JPG

I hope y’all enjoyed that! It was something I had on my mind to share, it was fun!

Now, I attempted to take some portrait photography for my blog for a new Gravatar image and such, but I ended up having to recruit my brother. It’s really hard to get it to be focused perfectly on a tripod and ten-second timer!

This was one I took by myself. It turned out good, but I kept getting the washed-out background (upper left), so I called good ‘ole Evan.

IMG_8539

I think he did pretty good! It was a frigid windy day, so camera shake and all was hard to avoid, BUT THE LIGHT! ♥

IMG_8543

This one probably turnout the best out of all of them. My hair was being wiped all ’round!

…AH! There we go. XD *applauds brother generously*

Oh, you know, just your every-day stride in the midst a field. (;

Maisy trudged through the woods to join us when we were walking back. She didn’t know she would be in a picture, though! Hehe. (She wasn’t that grateful…)

Being Tardy // Cassia’s Contest, Day 4, 5, + 6

Oh my word.

I suddenly got very busy the past few days, and I didn’t have time to post these photos! Oops!

Well, I’m going to post them now, although it’s late.

DAY FOUR: Smile

NOW…. This photo was taken awhile back and I totally slipped when trying to do a really (what I thought was) cool pose. Laugh/Embarrassed cackle, same thing! XD

DAY FIVE: A necklace

My favorite! If you’ve ever watched “Signed, Sealed and Delivered” (watch it!) this will remind you of a Rita necklace! I love it.

IMG_0091.JPG

DAY SIX: Street photography

My friends and I were together after church last Sunday, and we did some photography on their street.

Go look at Cassia’s photo! I wish I visited some streets like that. We don’t have many ’round here. (:

There It is! These photos were fun, but not all my normal style. I hope you enjoyed, though! Happy Sunday!

Oof. // Inktober Mid-point + How to Knock Out Prompts

Knocking out Inktober Promts.png

Hello, Friends!

It almost makes me a weeeeee bit teary-eyed to think how RAPIDLY October is flying past, my favorite month of the year is going as fast as the rest of this year has been! Learning to savor the time we have right now is something I’ll probably work on for a long time in my life.

ANYWAY…

All that being said, I’ve been drawing using the Inktober prompts every day, and it’s been very tricky a lot of times. (I mean, how do you draw something using the prompt “Legend”? Hehe, it wasn’t my best Inktober day🤣)

The first day was “Ring” as the prompt, so my process was sketching out different things. I first sketched out a ring , then a girls with a ring on her finger, but I wasn’t feeling that. I remember racking my brain trying to think of another thing, and the I thought, “Oh! A ringing phone!”

It always helps me to create little thumbnails of what your ideas are and a smaller version of the drawing, just to see if you like it.

IMG_9910.JPG            IMG_9911

Jumping over to the fourth day was “Freeze” as the prompt. I automatically thought of Frozen, to over on the left I drew a lady with ice powers (I wonder if she’s warm or cold blooded?😂), but I didn’t love that idea. Freeze tag! What else? (: That’s what I stuck with and I quite enjoyed the process of day four.

IMG_9912

Now day seven is probably one of my favorite drawings. I used calligraphy ink this day, where the prompt was “Enchanting,” so it was a new challenge. I decided my version of enchanting would be someone who was sweet and beautiful, so along came this character. I really like the different shades and contrasts you can get using ink, and it does really well with lettering (like where I wrote “Inktober 2019” over there).

IMG_9913

Day eight makes me laugh all the time, because the skinny girl with the bored expression is the same face I make. XD. (ALSO: Ignore the girl to the right, she was a random sketch I don’t like🤣) Stripes on sleeves are the BEST to draw and paint, because the torso part go across and the sleeves are slanted. SO GREAT! I love figuring out how to draw 2D/3D.

IMG_9915

Day ten, “Pattern,” was a fun one. The girl I painted has a plaid shirt, polka dot undershirt, and striped paints. Heehee! New fashion choices always puzzle me. 🤣

I painted in the ink with water different patterns and I thought I would make it interesting(:

IMG_9919

Day 14 was a lot of fun, especially elongating people. The prompt was “Overgrown,” so that’s what I did! I added a lot of random sketches, too.

*Small Note*

I do believe the illo sketchbooks are quite possibly my favorite sketchbooks I’ve used and I love the spiral-less, lay-flat-ness, high quality of these.

*End of Small Note*

img_9920.jpg

If you will, excuse the poor quality of this drawing. (:

The prompt today was “Ornament,” so I drew a girl/lady hanging one on her tree for Christmas. Blec. Hehe!

I’ve been drawing people to try and stretch that muscle for this month. Whew! It’s been tricky, but I’ve been enjoying it.

By the way, hands, feet and mouths are very tricky for me. I don’t know why, because I have all of those things! Anyway, that’s today’s drawing.

img_9922.jpg

Well, I hope you enjoyed seeing that peek at a few of my Inktober drawings for this year. It has been really fun so far!

Stay tuned for another post soon!

OCTOBER!! INKTOBER! AUTUMN!

*cough, choke*

Let me calm myself…

Greetings!  Today I have photographed my October bullet journal setup, and I though you might enjoy.

I really like fall (like I said HERE.. And here.. and here…), so I had to incorporate that someplace, and leaves sprung up. Originally, I was thinking about a pumpkin, but leaves are just so… fun!

I kept it fairly simple, using my Tombow dual-brush pens and a micron and a Tombow Fudenosuke. I sketched it out, then I picked some “fallish” colors. I kept the lineart fairly simple as well, like not going around the edges, but just the veins in the leaf.

On the right page, the one for my calendar, I did simple orange/gold rectangular boxes and brush lettering on top with the day. I like the overall appearance of these pages. They have a nice warm vibe.

IMG_9700.JPG

I had to stretch the 31st day onto the next page, so in the blanks next to it I put wash tape from Target. Below I really wanted to incorporate the Anne of Green Gables quote, “Aren’t you so glad we live in a world where there are Octobers?” so I thought that was the best place. Below I did goals, reminders and to-do’s in red boxes. I like to add this near the calendar so it will remind you not to procrastinate(:

On the right I did my regular habit tracker in micron, then the leaves. I wanted to keep this one simple as to not compete with the opposite page(:

IMG_9701.JPG

I made this little letter tracker page with a black micron and I used the same leaves. It’s always fun to have a repetitive theme for the month, like I’ve been doing since June (ish). They’re always fun to look back on!

On the right I have the inktober prompts written down so I can easily check them off. (Don’t forget to look back during the month for Inktober progress!) I used the same leaf colors to create a gradient with the words. I really like doing this(:

IMG_9703.JPG

And for the last pages I mainly just stayed the same. Black micron and leaves. The left is blog ideas for the month ( (: ), and to the right was just overall ideas I have.

IMG_9705.JPG

That’s a wrap, for now. I hope you all enjoyed this month’s setup, come back soon!

Bullet Journaling // Why It Works

Add a heading-10.png

Hello there! I hope everyone is having a great day!

I was filling out things in my bullet journal earlier and I was thinking, “What did I do before this!?”  Bullet journaling has worked well and has been really fun in the process, and today I’m just going to share some various tidbits about it and why it works so well.

To start off, there’s something I always haven’t been extremely faithful about remembering: The bullet key.

This is a very helpful way to remember the importance, time, if you completed something, if you need to save, if you need to buy, if you need to check off your list kinds of things.

I always put mine in the front of my bullet journal so that when I need to go look for it, it’s not hidden away in the middle someplace.

I stuck to some basic ones, like “task done” “task completed” “important” “good idea” and such. I’ve heard of other people doing a lot more things in order to help them remember.

If you’re just starting out with bullet journaling, or even if you’ve done it for awhile, this is still very helpful. The key, and the whole bullet journal as a matter of fact, is completely customizable to your own taste.

IMG_8084.JPG

Now, when I first started bullet journaling, I didn’t have something that I really like now, a content page/index.

My newest bullet journal, the one I’m in now, has one and it’s one of the most helpful things in it. (click HERE to see my Bullet Journal)

IMG_8087.JPG

Habit Trackers are probably my most helpful and favorite things in a bullet journal, because when they’re finished (especially if you didn’t miss a day) they look really neat, and they make you want to do that thing to be able to fill it in.

I’ve done all kinds; ones where you fill it in with certain colors, others its own separate box with a favorite black fineliner.

IMG_8088.JPG

IMG_8099.JPG

I really like to do a goals page. It’s always fun to see, at the end of the month, what goals you met.

Creating “TO-DO” lists for the month and cleaning plans are always great and very efficient and good to do ahead of time and to be able to add to later, because you can take a glance, go do something on your list, come back and check it off.

The main thing about a bullet journal that is so great is that it’s all in one. You get planner, calendar, to-do’s, goals, a journal (if you add that), in one book, and the good thing is that it’s only one book!

Hehe, I know I just said that twice, but that’s really the best thing about it. Instead of opening five different sources to check off or see various things, the all-in-one is so great. I prefer a A5 size journal because if you need to take it anywhere it isn’t too big.

Something else I prefer is a dotted grid. This is just me, but when I create a grid or calendar or do brush lettering, I don’t like doing it over back black lines. There are also square grids. I prefer a dotted grid that isn’t too noticeable, but it’s not just a blank piece of paper. (A grid really helps with lines and writing)

IMG_9347
You can see the dotted grid here.

I have a lot of pens I use when bullet journaling, but some of my favorites are my *Tombow Dual brush pens. These are water-based, brush and bullet nib pens that are great for writing, doing brush lettering, or coloring in certain things. They blend really well, too, which is something fun for your bullet journal’s look.

Some of my other favorites are my *Pigma Microns in black. Ah! I love these. They last long time and are great for writing and drawing grids.

I love to use a kneaded eraser and just a regular light pencil (like a 4H or 2H) to sketch out my designs. This is probably you have around your house!

And we can’t forget a good ‘ole ruler!

I hope this post was helpful and that you enjoyed it! Let me know what you would like to see next. More posts of the like?

Have a wonderful day!

Copic Markers // Recent Goings-On

Add a heading-4.png

Hi Everyone!

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter weekend! We did. It was very warm and sunny here, which was nice!

I recently got a pack of Copic markers and I’ve been trying to figure them out.

If you don’t know what Copics are, they’re alcohol based markers used for illustrations and blending. There are the Copic Ciaos, Copic Originals, and Copic Sketch markers. I have the Floral Favorites Copic Sketch set.

IMG_1083.JPG

The barrels of the markers are really nice, and I like how they have the color number on both caps, and the color name. The brush end is marked with a grey band on the barrel, which is very convenient ( the brush is my go-to!). The only thing that would make these great would be if the cap ACTUALLY FIT on the end!!? (It’s 100% necessary.)

IMG_1086.JPG

They’re really bendable, and the same color can layer and get darker very nicely, which is great for shading. The only problems with these markers, and doing a lot of layering, is that it bleeds pretty bad through the paper. They work really nicely on watercolor, bristol board and card stock paper. I have been using them in my sketchbook lately, even though they bleed to the next page. I can still sketch over them(:

IMG_1084.JPG

Before I got these Copics I used these knock-off brand from Dick Blick, but they don’t hold a stick to the Copic markers! I still use them with may new markers, though.

IMG_1085.JPG

I did some quick sketches to test the blending abilities, and to just figure them out in general! I want to do a more in-depth review, but now I shall move on to other things(:

IMG_1093.JPG

Now, there has been a long time since my last post, so I’m going to do some little picture updates!

FLOWERS. EVERYWHERE.

There are so many beautiful flowers blooming everywhere around us, and I’ve been filling my memory card up so much with flower pictures😆

March 2019 BUJO Setup

Text placeholder-8.png

Happy March! (How is it MARCH?!)

Well, so far March has started out a fun month. We went to Alabama for the first two days, which was fun and I was excited about. It’s always great to have something fun to kick off the month!

Beforehand, I like to give my monthly BUJO setups a theme, (ex. January: Colors, Feb: Pinks + Reds) so when you see a lot of cacti, well, yep, that’s my theme. I also am using lots of greens, but some occasional pinks get in there(:

Without further adieu, let’s take a look!

My left opening page just says “March,” with, yep, a bunch of little cactus around it. These little plants are so fun to draw, and it adds a little color into it. The right hand side has my month calendar. Since there’s 31 days in March, I had to leave one space open. A perfect spot for some more cacti!

IMG_0235

They’re cut and easy to draw. I used my Tombow Dual brush pens for the colors and then for the pot’s lip (or whatever it’s called😄) I used an gold opaque chisel pen that I’ve had since I did some scrapbooking a looooonnngg time ago. It just added a little “sumpin’ sumpin,” as my mama says.

img_0238.jpg

This is my month overview. I like to do the little calendar squares that are about one and a half inches apart, just so I have a little room to write things down.

IMG_0237.JPG

This is my monthly habit tracker. I decide this month, that instead of doing one big grid, (see here, my February setup’s habit tracker) I want everything individually. I like it better this way. I think it gives a cleaner look. I chose to do all greens this month. (well, the pretty ones, that is.😆)

IMG_0241.JPG

More cactus(: The grids are about 2 inches wide; perfect for the dotted grid.

IMG_0243.JPG

Instead of doing a water tracker this month I’m just using this goal (that’s trying to become a habit for me) to drink 5 or more 8oz. glasses of water daily. So far I’ve done it, and I’m hoping to keep it up!

IMG_0246.JPG

Now here I just placed many things together, and I actually like it! I didn’t at first because I thought It might be a little chaotic, (which I guess it would be if I had more colors and things to write…) but It works pretty well for me. I just put my goals, reminders, to do’s, etc.

IMG_0248.JPG

This is my first week of March log, just so I can have a more in detail look at what’s coming up.

img_0254.jpg

Here is my month letter tracker. This really has no purpose, except that I like to see when I received letters from different pen-pals. I made this one so that the person’s name is like the address and the return address is where the date goes. (You can see the first letter I’ve gotten this month up there in the corner.)

IMG_0252.JPG

This is my March savings log. I like to do this to look back on my expenses and savings.

IMG_0255.JPG

And last: my March bible reading plan. I’m following the ESV 30 days in the new testament plan. If you want to check out their reading plans for the English Standard Version (ESV) click here. They have some good’uns! The plan is that you read each one of these each day for 30 days. I like following a plan, so I’m excited to do this one! The ones I’ve done before are in Focus on the Family’s Brio magazine. (A christian magazine for teen girls) I have used their reading plan for awhile, but I wanted to try something different this time.

img_0259.jpg

Welp, that’s it! I really enjoyed setting up is month, and I’m excited to see how March goes in general! I love spring, and it’s only 18 days from now!

Thanks much for reading, y’all!
