Not Too Many Hearts.. // February BUJO Setup

Hello! How are things?

*

*

Good!

Haha, I hope y’all are well.

Today is very exciting because I’m posting about a bullet journal setup I am very excited about. And, can you believe there are only 2 days (?!) until February? I am at a bit of a loss for words. On month down already, whoosh! That was fast, it seems!

I have been very intrigued by the Dark and Light Academia aesthetics of late, and because I have a bullet journal, I though I’d try my hand at the aesthetic inside of it. I really enjoyed making this and laying it out, I hope you like it!

The main thing I notice about the Academia aesthetics is that they have a lot of tones of neutrals, so I went with that. For the most part, the only pens I used were the Tombow fudenosuke brush pen (hard tip) and a Pilot ink pen and a white gel pen for accents here and there.

I picked out some kraft paper for some different tones and I printed off some small photos and art to glue down (HERE is a link to my Pinterest board where you can find these additions to my bullet journal!) and to add some texture and depth and different elements to the spread. I used a very typewriter like font throughout, which is something i don’t do often, but really enjoyed.

I did a simple, two page calendar layout for this month (And I was very excited because there is a even number of days, 28, and this month starts on Monday! Eee!) and included the neutral colors and kraft paper at the bottom, as well as the same font and print outs.

On this next page I have Goals, To Do, Reminders and Ideas in one “scroll.” I love doodling things like this, so I figured I’d sling on in here somewhere. XD

On the other side I have a vertical layout (you can click here where I show you my BUJO add ons, and there I mention different layouts) for my habit trackers, featuring the same colors, fonts and prints. My habits to continue to build are daily bible reading, skin care at night, read daily, and keep a tidy room. What habits will you be building?

These two ( and a 1/2, I suppose) pages have the first two weekly logs of the month. I did a dutch door page in between where I doodled some books and letters and tea.

I think the next two pages might just be my favorite; perhaps, the dark colors, layout, I’m not sure! But, on the left we have the mail tracker (which is who I got a letter from, when, and did I reply) with various clips of photos and quotes.

On the next page I sketched a quote that says, “Those who have not more, must be satisfied with what they have.” By Jane Austen. It seemed to go with a bit of the “simple” theme. What are some of your favorite quotes?

This next page I have the money tracker for the month. It’s just the usual grid setup I do (see here for reference) with the addition of a budget space, and some beautiful pictures of libraries. ❤ Ahhh

On the right side I have a very simple weekly log. I felt like something simple might be fun beside such a busy money tracker. What do you think?

The next page is a planning page for somethings I’m hosting and teaching in February, they are just divided by a thin line.

On the right, I have another weekly log that is the same as the previous one, but with the addition of a slab of books. (:

Y’all. What is this?! Why is it touching my bullet journal?! Haha, Maisy wanted to show you her lovely hand curls.

The last page is a quote with some lovely, dreamy photos. The quote says, “Life is not a problem to be solved, but a reality to experience.” Seems like a nice one to add in the mix! (:

On the right, I have a “scroll” with a “Month Recap” inside that I will fill out at the end of the month saying a few of the things I had done in it. (:

What did y’all think? Do y’all like the academia aesthetics?

I hope you are doing well and happy February!

What is your favorite aesthetic? Do you like neutral colors? What would be a exciting post to see? Favorite restaurant?

Bullet Journaling 2021 // Tips and Favorite Designs

Happy New Year! (plus one day. (: )

I have had a few questions about different things regarding bullet journaling recently, so I figured that I would make a post where I talk about a few of my favorite things when bullet journaling (including my favorite journals) and the different styles of fonts and pens. And, a page of titles and designs I love.

I have tried a few bullet journals in my time including one from Hobby Lobby that was abandoned on a end cap, a dupe for the Archer and Olive journals that I can’t pronounce (here. This is what I used last year. Very pretty!) , and these, which are my favorite that I have used. These journals are by Minimalism Art. They have a significant range in sizes and pages, and they have quite a lot of colors. For this year, I chose two of the 190 page journals. One white, one black. In 2019 I used the tan one which has a bit over 250 pages, which is just enough for a year for me. But I liked black and white, so I got the two smaller page journals to get me through 2021.

LAYOUT

I have tested out quite a few different types of pages as far as the grid goes, and a few years back landed on dotted grid pages as my favorite. I like that you can do art on top of them and you don’t see big lines, and they are faint, but you can still see them to help yourself make straight lines every time. But, most dots in each journal (any journals) are different. So, whenever I get a new dotted bullet journal I make a little not in the front about how many dots wide and tall the journal contains. This helps me if I need to make a line straight through the middle and I won’t have to cont up all the dots to find the mid part.

I make little grids all of the time, and I usually just freehand them by counting out 8 dots (or 7 spaces) and then draw it two dots high. Depending on the size o your journal, you might want to go 2 or 3, maybe even 4 dots tall if your dots are tiny and close together.

I am going to keep it pretty simple as far as the design goes for this post, but you are welcome to turn it into whatever you like! I like to look at stickers or pretty papers or pictures of different things on pinterest to decide my theme, but sometimes I just make it up without looking at anything for inspiration, too. For this design, I had these cute floral themed stickers to which I drew inspiration.

If you’re going for a simple theme, just centering your title (the name of the month) in the page with minimal designs around (I just did three flowers diagonally on each side of the title) is really pretty. I love going for more simple themes like this, but I also love going more into detail with harder themes. Speaking of, any theme ideas for this year you’d like me to try?

Choosing a color scheme can be one of the hardest parts for me, but go with what you love! For this theme I chose warmer, rosy tones and a deeper warm green in the Tombow dual brush pens (the exact shades are 772, 912, 026 and 249, which are all dear favorites that I’ve used multiple times in bullet journal setups.). You don’t have to over do it as far as color goes. Just a black pen and/or black brush pen and one or two colors would be plenty!

This kind of simple design is really easy and pretty, and you could carry these little flowers (or hearts or leaves or pumpkins ar books, whatever you choose!) through the rest of your pages and it would be so pretty!

I always like to make a little insert in my journal of my most used fonts to refer to through the year to help keep everything cohesive. Number 1,2,4,6 and 8 are the ones y’all see the most, but somewhere I would like to use the bubble letters (#7). A bit farther down I have a list of title fonts you could use to refer to, hope they help! (:

Below are some fun title and design ideas I love. Let me know if you use any!

I do weekly logs in every spread, and I seem to always be trying out a new layout. Below are the ones I have used many times before. You can check out this, this, this, and this to see a few of these designs in action.

These are my favorite and most-used pens. Overall, my most used are the Tombow Fudenosuke brush pens. If you don’t have them, they’re worth the $7!

Below I have the Pigma Micron in 02 (my favorite fineliner!), the Tombow dual brush pen, a Sakura Gelly Roll white gel pen, a Tombow Fudenosuke, a pencil, a Ecoline brush pen, and a Baoke brush pen (in S23). If you want a more detailed pen post, let me know!

And lastly, the main add ends I love to use in my bullet journal: Washi tape and stickers. I find these add some very fun colors, patterns and textures, and you can use whatever suits your fancy! I also like to incorporate kraft paper, patterned paper, magazine clippings, etc. But, these two categories are my main used(:

Maisy wishes you all farewell and Happy New Year! ❤

I hope you all enjoyed this post, and maybe you were able to pick up a tip or two. I hope you are all doing well, have a lovely day! And, please be sure to leave me any post suggestions below, I’d love to hear what you would be interested to see.(:

Do you do any of these things in your bullet journal? What is your favorite color group? Do you like sweet or salty better?

Ways to be Christmassy // A Christmas Themed Post

Well HOwdy! HOw are you doing? I HOpe you’re well!

See what I did there? XD

I have been feeling as if I should be more in a Christmas feeling mood of late. You know how sometimes you get caught up in what you’re doing or what happens in a few months or random things, and you lose track of the season? Well, I do that, and so today I thought I would make a fun post about things that will help you enjoy the Christmas season, and maybe even give you some Christmas spirit!

Now, I know everyone always looks forward to getting gifts on Christmas, but some of the most fun in Christmas is giving! A fun way to give is to write letters to someone you love or know, and decorating them just adds to that. (*post on Christmas mail soon!*) I love doing reds and greens and maybe-a-liitle-bit-over-the-top script *grins cheekily*.

Ahh.. there’s just something about taking a minute to sit down, drink something yummy and warm, maybe by a fire, and read a good book. I have just embarked on “A Christmas Carol” for the first time. Dickens is one of my favorite authors, and so I figured it was about time I read this! Do you have any favorite Christmas books?

Quotes! Verses! Movie lines! Putting fun things around you like this really help with bringing on that Christmas feel. Have any favorites? I know I could choose at least 50 fro Elf and 50 more from the Grinch. Haha, both are so good!

This is kind of completely unrelated but SOCKS! My goodness, they’re my favorite! I’m only not wearing socks when it’s Summer, other than that, I love them! Fun patterns and designs are super fun. Every year at Target I get a weird Christmas pair. Hehe, it’s a fun and useful tradition! My friend and I used to do a Christmas sock exchange, too, that was super fun. What is your favorite tradition?

Journaling, drawing or doodling is a fun way to incorporate some Christmas in the everyday. Check out this post where I made my December bullet journal spread. I really enjoy this for some inspiration and I enjoy the colors! What is your favorite kind of art to do?

My friend Sammi once showed me her room one Christmas season and she had dozens of beautiful paper snowflakes all over her ceiling, and so I tried it and I have done it for years! They’re so fun to make, and I love seeing them on the ceiling. Have you every done this?

I don’t typically go crazy on decorations for my room, but I do love putting lights up! My Dad and I went to Lowes recently, and they are selling 21 ft. strands for 2.99 and I got very excited! They really brighten up a room and make it very festive! Here is a link if you’re interested in doing the same to your room!*

Well, that is all for now! I hope you all enjoyed this little Christmas ideas post, and I hope you have a great day and a Merry Christmas! Stick around for more posts soon, and be sure to leave suggestion for future posts!

What is your favorite tradition? Do you get snow on Christmas? What is your favorite Christmas song? Do you like Candy Canes or Eggnog?

Photography

Howdy thar!

Well, I believe that’s enough of my southern accent for one post. XD

Hello! I hope you’re all doing well!

Recently my camera has been in full use, almost daily. The weather has provided some lovely shots, from rain, to snow, to heat, to MORE rain, to more heat, and things finally starting to bloom, it’s been fun to experiment!

I’ve enjoyed using Canva to edit and adjust my photos, it’s such a great site!

One thing I’ve been wanting to really work on this year is nighttime photography. I understand my settings, but for some reason night photos were always reeeeaaally dark. I’ve just started to figure it out, so here are some shots from that!

You can juuuussstt make out Orion’s belt there. Don’t you love stars?

Haha, I sneezed while I was taking a picture of this star. XD

IMG_0425

With so much rain, the birds have enjoyed getting out and eating. They, for some reason, love to sit on my window.

The animals, especially during the snow we got a week or two ago, really enjoyed being out.

I have been painting and drawing deer a lot lately, so I decided to put a little fawn on a letter. I really like how this one turned out. Have y’all ever seen baby deer? In the Spring/Summer they cross through the field next to us a lot. They’re so cute!

Recent Letter Art… PART TWO!

Letter Art-3

Hello again!

I recently made a letter art post, though many more pictures have amassed in the good ole’ memory card, so I thought I would empty it until the next time! (which, I almost promise, won’t be a week from this one)

I hope you enjoy!

I love to theme my letters or make everything (inside and out) the same. This letter to my friend Bronwyn I kept the same, using the gold Tombow dual pen 026, and grey one, N89 and the bullet end of a back one to create a shadow effect and I also used the grey one for a border.

IMG_9908

I feel like keeping it cohesive and match-matchy makes letters really pretty and there are so many ways to change it up with the lettering and art and styles, so fun!

IMG_9906

I love creating wild, fun art on the envelopes. Though, if you’re using waterbased pens, be sure to seal it in something or else it will look like watercolor if it goes through rain–and you might not want that. XD

IMG_9646

Hehe. My friend’s name is IrisAnne, so I attempted to make the letters in her name different flowers. Failed attempt? XD

IMG_9647

I love using washi tape as borders, and lately I’ve been loving layering two tapes, or even three, for variety in color and shapes. It’s simple, but still fun!

IMG_9913

I layered this one as well. I love layering pattern on solid or vise versa. (Thanks to one of my pen pals for sending some silver washi tape. I love it!)

IMG_9917

For that letter I used a silver theme, with that same backdrop black shading as the first letter. OH! My brother got me some awesome pen+gear pastel envelopes for Christmas that have a sticky backs so that you don’t have to lick them. *ahhhhhhh* I DIDN’T KNOW THIS MAGIC WAS REAL. If you understand the mucho disgust in licking the envelope, you’ll love these.

IMG_9915

This one I just did a basic black font, but I went with a more script font than I normally use. I want to start adding more loops, but I don’t know, they scare me! (:

IMG_9918

I went very abstract and bright with this one. I wanted to include bunches of shapes. What do you think?

IMG_9663

This one’s pretty simple, another floral theme. This pen pal loves purple, so I tried to include that a good bit(:

IMG_9665

I experimented with a circular/abstract/mandala art in watercolor for this one. I really enjoyed the outcome! It was fun creating the shapes.

IMG_9670

I wanted to use a yellow envelope for this letter, so alongside the “sunny” (know where I’m going?XD) yellow, I drew a rather sketchy sun. I think it turned out pretty cute! I love yellow.

IMG_9657

I wrote my friend Sammi in French, so I addressed it (other than the actual address, I didn’t think the postman would be fluent. XD) in French, alongside a flower. I also use that same technique for a backdrop as before.

IMG_9902

I painted this pen pal’s name, but then I thought, “hmm… this needs some color.” VUA LA!   (is there an actual way to spell that?) Hehe. I just randomly placed oblong shapes in different colors everywhere.

IMG_9676

For the entering greeting in a letter like “Dear …” or “Hello, …” I like doing lettering and I usually close with lettering as well.

IMG_9675

This one I basically used my Tombow pen as a highlighter and lettered on top and added some random greenery. I did this to a lot of letters because I liked it, but I’l only show this one. It’s fun to do this in different colors. (:

IMG_9651

I love using bold washi tapes on the back with matching lettering. Ah, don’t you love washi tapes? ♥

IMG_9911

IMG_9914

(I use that washi tape combo a lot. XD)

IMG_9674

IMG_9650

Well, that’s all for now. I hope you enjoyed part two! I hope you’re all having a great day!

The Camera Shall Not Be Forgotten! // Recent Photography

Letter Art-2.png

Hello There!

Boy, I can’t remember the last time I did a photography post. I felt it was long overdue! I have pictures from November and December here. They’ve been piling up! I hope you enjoy.

Ah, back when there was color in the trees! I miss it, though I look forward to when everything buds and blooms, it’s just as beautiful!

IMG_8751.JPG

IMG_8750.JPG

DON’T DO THIS IF YOU DON’T LIVE ON A SLOW COUNTRY ROAD! xD Not the safest… but I liked the yellow with the red. (:

IMG_8754.JPGIMG_8753.JPG

This was one of those weird November days where you’re not sure if it’s cold or warm, it’s cloudy, no wind, etc. A perfect time for a tree photoshoot! XD

IMG_8762.JPGIMG_8774.JPGIMG_8778.JPG

The moon was something shining in my room one night, so i thought I’d take a photo of it. Isn’t the moon amazing?

Lastly, I did a photoshoot with my piano teacher’s baby. Hehe.

Well, Hello, 2020! // January Bullet Journal Setup

DECEMBER-2.png

Well… 2020. You have a ring to ya!

Happy New Year, friends!

Have you ever accidentally taking a break? Well, I believe that hath happened to me the fine December past. XD Whoops!

Well, I’m back now, and I have a new bullet journal I really wanted to break in.

To start out, I want to show you my 2020 bujo! I’m thinking of a name, any suggestions?

I really wanted an Archer and Olive bullet journal. They’re just so beautiful, but they were constantly sold out, and they came back in stock the other day, but I wouldn’t have gotten one until mid-way through January, so maybe next year!

I found, after searching for “like journals” I found this Tekukor bullet journal on Amazon. Actually, i’m very well impressed. It’s very much similar to the A+O bullet journals: cloth cover with gold embossed design, 160 gsm paper (Ahh) and 192 dot grid pages. And it came in two days! (Can we take a moment to appreciate Amazon prime??)

If you’re thinking about getting a bullet journal, so far this, and Minimalism Art, are great ones!

IMG_9637.JPG

There’s always that one first page where only one side has dots, so I just put a opening page. I used a black Tombow dual brush pen, a hard tip (my sweet) Tombow fudenosuke brush pen, and a white signo broad gel pen.

IMG_9597.JPG

I added a short quote to start off the year, “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are” by Roosevelt.

To the right I have my “year at a glance” page.

IMG_9599.JPG

I use certain color for different things, such as Holidays, Events, and Birthdays. It’s also helpful for me to see what days are on what days of the week and such. I refer to it a lot throughout the year, it’s very helpful!

img_9602.jpg

Ah, now January, at last!

I used a little flower theme I made up I call “September” (you can see it here). I liked it best from 2019, so I chose it again for January. I put my calendar to the right, though I only fit 24 squares on the one page so could have enough room.

IMG_9605.JPG

I stretched the remaining days over to the next pages. Since I had extra room at the bottom, I put the goals froms the month of January down there, and added the same leaves as in the previous page.

My habits for the month (to the right) include 5 or more cups of water, reading my bible daily, practice all my instruments *sweats*, and my daily skin routine.

IMG_9612.JPG

I made a “to do” page and a “reminders” page side by side. I like how neat and simple it looks (now, at least. XD)

IMG_9617.JPG

This is my monthly money tracker, I started this in November and I really like it. It’s helpful to see the amount I spend and save.

IMG_9618.JPG

I made a page for books I want to read in 2020, so I’m hoping the books on these shelves will all have titles soon! I made this page into bookshelf form. It makes me happy to glance upon.

IMG_9621.JPG

My January letter tracker has the same green vine as the opening page, but otherwise, it’s fairly simple! I check the little “stamp” in the corner when I’ve responded. It’s very helpful for me, I often get lost in responding quickly or knowing if  I have or not. I wonder if I’ve ever sent a pen pal two letters with the same content. XD

img_9625.jpg

This is a new page I’ve added to my bullet journaling. I needed something to help me track savings, and what I’m saving for. I hope to meet my goals by 2021!

IMG_9626.JPG

My last pages are (left) my January blog post ideas page. I have a lot of ideas for the new year, but please be sure to let me know what you want to see! the next page, instead of “resolutions” I put 2020 hopes. (I don’t know, something about the word resolutions…)

IMG_9628.JPG

I hope y’all enjoyed seeing this, and let me know what you’re looking forward to for 2019–no, (ugh, we’re in for about 4 months of this. XD) 2020!

I hope you’re having a wonderful day!

A Gathering Of Recent Photography

Happy Mother's Day!.png

Hello my friends!

I do hope your day is grand!

I have gathered an amount of photos in the last few days and I am longing to share them with you all!

We have had some rather beautiful sunsets of late. I love how they change so many times in the short time they’re in the sky. God’s masterpieces! Aren’t they gorgeous?

“From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the Lord is to be praised.”

My Dad and Evan (my brother) went out to play frisbee. I wanted to try some action shots(: It was hard to get everything still! I used Shutter Speed on the dial first, but then went to Tv 3200, F-stop 1/125. It seemed to work alright. Learning!

Testing All Of My Watercolor Mediums

Birthday-4.png

Hi!

I am SO happy it paused raining today! I went outside and sat, just watercoloring, for a few hours, soaking in all the sun! I’m so glad God gave us a hint of Spring today; I would’ve gone crazy without it! (He probably new that😁)

Also: Thank you guys so much for 60 followers! Thank you so much for reading my little blog here. It has been a fun journey(:

MOVING ON…

I have acquired a few different versions of watercolors over the past little while, and I wanted to test them all out, and I thought y’all might like to see!

I have these small pieces of paper cut out for swatching, which is almost my favorite part. It’s so fun to see all the colors on the page.

IMG_0140.JPG

I decided to start with my tube paints first, so that I could give them ample amount of time to dry. The brand of these paints are the Royal Langnickel Essentials. I really like these paints and how saturated they are compared to some of the others. They can also be layered well, which I’m a big fan of. I think you can get these paints on Amazon

IMG_0147.JPG

I put them all out on my palette I got HERE and then went to get some water.

IMG_0151.JPG

I love how bright the colors are, especially the violet! I love the color Prussian blue, too.

IMG_0152.JPG

Next I did some swatches with this super old Crayola watercolor palette we had. I knew these wouldn’t be very good quality or colors, but they were watercolor…😒 The blue turned out well!

Heh. Yeah, that’s all I had to say about them(:

IMG_0154.JPG

Then I used this old (even older than the last one) watercolor set. This was the one I loved to use before I got my Windsor and Newton palette last year. This is a Prang Oval-8 palette. This is a great palette for beginners, and it’s very affordable😊

As you can see, It’s been “well loved”

This is my Winsor & Newton compact watercolor set, which is my favorite. (They also come in bunches of different formats, not just compact😁)

These are all of the swatches on this page. I’m actually happy I did this because I had no comparison swatches. (All of them together)

Then I started swatching all the watercolor pencils. The brand of watercolor pencils we have are the Conté a paris aquarelle pencils. I found this set at a yard sale in the fall and I hadn’t really used them until recently. I would totally recommend these are the Winsor and Newton ones to anyone(:

So How these work is: You sketch the color with the plain pencil down THEN add water. (It took me forever to figure this out!)  I have heard of people putting water ON the pencil, but I have found that that doesn’t quite give the same effect.

I wanted to see if they blended well together, so I swatched them all beside each other.

Then I added water. I think they do blend well! I like how this turned out. I shall be using this technique in the future. (Also: do y’all have any tips for watercolor pencils? I’m all ears!)

Oh, while I’m on it, I am using the Marvy Watercolor brush pen. I love this one. It’s the perfect thing for traveling, mainly because it’s (pretty well) self-cleaning, and it holds it’s own water. I also have used the Pentel version, but I like these better.

The other brushes I’m using are the Yohino brand from Amazon(:

Then I quickly switched out something. I planned on using at least one color from each medium.

The overalls and from the Prang palette, the hair from the tubes, and the shirt from the Crayola palette.

And the rest was the watercolor pencils. Definitely not one of my favorite illustrations, but for not quite knowing what they’d all be like together, it’s okay.

I wasn’t fully satisfied with that last illustrations, so I quickly sketched out and eye to see how it’d do.

I used a few different palettes and tubes for this iris.

I used the Crayola palette for the eyebrow, which was quite the mistake, but then I used the watercolor pencils for the eyelashes and skin.
