A Collection Of Recents

Some

Hello!

Oh my, *checks calendar* it’s been way too long. I’m glad to be writing again! Even though I’ve been “quarantined” I’ve somehow let the days slide quickly. Is that possible? XD

Well, in my absence I’ve done a lot around my house, which I’ve enjoyed. It’s been nice having time to do things I’ve wanted to do, but just didn’t find the time to do. And luckily all of this craziness seems to be slowing down a bit at the start of Summer! I end my school year on the 22nd this year, and I can’t wait to have those long, fun Summer days ahead. Anyone else?

Well, lots of letters have passed through my *sanitized* (🤣) fingers, and I thought I’d share a bit ‘o recent letter art/lettering.

For some reason, I’ve been really into identical envelope art. Each day when I mail out letters, each day has different envelopes. A few days ago I did these black and white envelopes, using a white Signo broad gel pen.  This is a wonderful, affordable pen for dark papers as such. I also use it a lot for highlights when lettering, one of my favorites.

IMG_1906

I suppose this was another themed day. XD I love using a slightly different tone of color on envelopes to do the lettering, it creates such a pretty, soft, simple look.

IMG_1519IMG_1509

Ah, another! Hehe. I love doing this lemon-looking pattern. It was so Summery I couldn’t stop doing it. XD I used my Tombow Dual brush pens and the Tombow Fudenosuke brush pens for this.

IMG_1505

I really enjoy using washi tape as borders for envelopes. If you’re running low on time, but want to make your snail mail fun with color, throwing a bit ‘o washi tape or sticker on there is a great way to spruce it up!

IMG_1288

IMG_1040

Using drop shadows is one of my favorite ways to do letter art. It just adds a little sumpin’ sumpin’. What are your favorite ways to spruce your envelopes? I’d love to know!

IMG_1010

I’ve been enjoying lettering bible verses lately. Below is part of one of my favorite verses (and a sneak peak into the June BUJO setup(: ).

The walks lately have held many beautiful flowers and beautiful skies. Have you all walked this Spring? Do you have flowers blooming?

My cousin and his family came to visit a week or so ago, and so provided some photo opportunities of his little children. It was so fun! Toddlers and babies are interesting subjects. (:

Warm Memories // some thoughts

Can you picture it?

A night where the moon bursts out beneath magnificent streams of still clouds.

IMG_9389

A morning where the fresh cut grass sticks to your feet as you walk to the garden.

A night when you need a light jacket because of a hair-twirling breeze, but you have your bare feet out.

IMG_0122

A day when you eat a sandwich up in a tree for no reason.

A morning where the sun’s rays are so majestic you feel you must take a photo with a camera that has held many a memory card in its life.

IMG_9218

A night of warm weather sounds like frogs and cicadas calling to one another.

When you come in from being outside, not thinking you were sweaty from the heat, but a fan cooling your house is everything you didn’t know you needed.

IMG_0143

I like those moments. They are almost here. Though, it feels vaguely quite. Vaguely still.

There may not be the getting together with neighbors and grilling and playing soccer until the stars are brightly shining, or the amazing, juicy watermelon eating in a family reunion, but maybe the stillness holds something good, too.

This upcoming season will be a lot different. But maybe it will be special in itself.

IMG_9714

Though, strangely, it almost seems… okay right now. Is it a rest we needed?

If there’s one thing I’ve felt in this time we’re in, it’s calmness. I feel calm.

I know there’s strange stuff going on, and it’s very sad, but I think it might almost be a blessing we’re able to be in our homes. It gives us time to think. To be with God and strengthen our relationship with him.

IMG_0400

Sometimes life can be crazy. Sometime you feel like you could use a break.

Now is a perfect time. We’re in for awhile, why not make the best of it?

The warm nights of shining stars, bright moons, dewy grass and dandelions are still coming, but this Summer may be different.. maybe.

IMG_0125

I am thankful for technology (email, phone calls, etc.), and the mail (and blogging, of course!) to help us all stay connected.

We can still enjoy the warmth of the nearing season!

Have a wonderful day, and Happy Early Easter! He is risen!

Are any of those warm memories yours as well? How are you staying connected with your friends and family? Are you enjoying a bit of a rest from things? What are your quarantine days like?

Spring is still here.

IMG_1067

Isn’t it chaotic? The world, I mean.

IMG_1077

It seems like everywhere you look, or listen, there is some new news. Some new discovery or new report of this illness.

IMG_1079

I was in the midst. I have been caught up in checking where it was, how it’s spreading, and we partly joined in the worry. (Boy, I’ve never gone to the grocery store so much! XD)

IMG_1061

Just because there’s something scary going on in the word, doesn’t mean the world stops.

IMG_1071

The flowers bloom, the birds, in their tumultuous songs, are everywhere.

IMG_1084

I took a drive in our old golf cart around the property the other day and realized,

Nature goes on. God doesn’t stop Spring and turn it grey to suit the mood. It’s as beautiful as it always is.

IMG_1066

I don’t know what to make of this pandemic. It is scary. But we can’t let our fear or worry let us forget that there is still beauty. And behind it a God who loves and cares deeply, more deeply than we can fathom, for US.

IMG_1073

I know this is happening to people who you may know, maybe your close family, maybe you. I hope and pray everything will be well, I truly do.

God loves you. It’s a wonderful thing to remember in a time like this. He can turn ugly into beautiful, awful into wonderful.

IMG_1074

I just wanted to share some thoughts I have during this time. I hope you are doing well and are safe at home. I am praying for you. Be well!

Drop Shadows // Additions For Lovely Lettering

DropShadow

Hhaapppyy Sssuunnddaayy!

Also, happy National Day of Prayer! I hope you are all safe and well.

I have been rather scant in posts lately, but I’m a comin’ back. I have been doing lots of letter art and lettering in general, and it crossed my mind that I haven’t done that many lettering posts.

fox broadcasting GIF by So You Think You Can Dance

When I first started brush lettering in 2018, I would look at pictures of quotes and things and I would see these “shadows” on the letters that kind of made them look 3D. I thought that was so cool, but it took me awhile to learn, But now that I do it a lot I thought I’d share it with you! So I hope this helps you with your drop shadows. They’re so fun to add.
IMG_9906
IMG_0147
IMG_9734
I use drop shadows a lot for bullet journaling and writing letters, and I thought you all might like to see how I go about mine.
IMG_0867
To start out, pick one of your favorite markers or brush pens or pens. I’m using Tombow Dual Brush pens for this tutorial.
IMG_0870

#1 Basic Dropshadow

I lettered a simple “hello” because it has a lot of good shapes to practice on. You can write anything, though!
IMG_0873
For the drop shadows on this one I’m using my Pilot Frixion ball pen. (GUYS, it’s erasable!  Perfect for writing.)
IMG_0876
Start on the top of the downstroke of the letter. In brush lettering, this is the thickest part. If you’re writing with a regular pen or marker, just imagine where you pulled the pen down.
I always draw my drop shadows on the left, but that’s a personal preference.
IMG_0878
When you get to an intersection between lines, (like below) don’t go over it. Stop, pick up your pen and go over that line, and then begin directly after it. It’s a minor detail, be it makes it look more like a shadow.
IMG_0879
IMG_0881
Continue drawing your drop shadows on the rest of the letters.
IMG_0885
IMG_0888
IMG_0889
Whenever you get to a letter like O, it can be a bit tricky to decide what to do. I always start on the inner portion (where you would start the letter) and I do my regular downstroke.
IMG_0890
Then go on the upper portion and start.
IMG_0891
When you get to the overlapping part, go until you meet the line you entered the letter on. Jump over it, then continue with your line to distinguish the overlapping and the beginning sections, but don’t go any farther.
IMG_0892
VOILA!  It’s a simple way to add a little fun to your lettering.
IMG_0894

#2 A Bit More Plump

The next one is one I do often.

Instead of a regular pen, I’m using the Tomdow fudenosuke hard tip (My favorite. I use this most every day!) to do the drop shadows. This will create a more thick line without it being too thick.

IMG_0895

Start again from the top of the downstroke, and head down, jumping over any line intersections.

IMG_0898

IMG_0900IMG_0903IMG_0905

TAA DAA!

It’s a bit more of a bold look, I like how it looks like a shadow. This can be done with any tools, too, which is a plus!

IMG_0906

#3 A Bit More Fancy

This is what I most use when it comes to drop shadows, I love how the shadows… scroll for more!

I’m back to the Pilot Frixion pen, but you can use anything(:

IMG_0908

Start by doing the same thing as the other two, draw the drop shadows along the edge of the downstrokes.

IMG_0912IMG_0914

Once you’ve done that, go back to the first letter and start your line on the top of the entering line.IMG_0916

Continue that line over where you intersected the lines and up into the loop. Don’t go all the way around, your new line should stop under where the other one started.

IMG_0918IMG_0920

Start again on top of the next line. End mid-arch, never overlapping your first set of drop shadows.

IMG_0921

Next to the loop going into E the same way. Also to the loop on e. Continue this way until you’ve reached the end.

IMG_0924IMG_0927IMG_0931

Yay! This is my favorite way to do drop shadows. It’s so fun and easy!

IMG_0935

#4 A Shade Lighter Than The Rest

This is a subtle and fun way to add dimension to your lettering, and it’s easy and fun, too!

Pick a color, any color, then find a lighter one, probably 60% lighter. If you do black, find a light grey. Navy, find light blue. I did blush pink/mauve, so I found a faint/baby pink.

Here are the two most used backdrop colors I use, 800 (baby pink) and N89 (warm grey) (also 873 (coral), but I didn’t snap a photo)

IMG_0939

Take the brush side (or however you can make a thick stroke on the pen you use) and do the same as the first two, start at the top of the downstroke and go down.

IMG_0942

IMG_0947IMG_0956

Done! It’s a subtle way to add depth and dimension, and the outcome is really pretty!

IMG_0958

As a little bonus onto this style, you can take a black pen (I’m using the Frixion one again) and line the downstrokes close to the original letter.

IMG_0965IMG_0976

#5 A Different Hue

I picked a envelope with a medium color, turquoise, and I wrote in an equal tone.

IMG_0980

Instead of black or pink or grey, grab a white, silver or gold. I’m using my white Uni-ball Signo broad gel pen. (Ammaazziinngg)

IMG_0981

Start like before, starting at the top of the downstroke and going down.

IMG_0982IMG_0989IMG_0992

Then, like #3, line the inside of the upstrokes.

IMG_0996IMG_1000

I love how this creates more of a highlighted look than a shadow. It’s so pretty on toned paper such as this.

IMG_1003

I hope you all enjoyed this little tutorial! Let me know what you thought!

Have a happy Sunday!

Photography

Howdy thar!

Well, I believe that’s enough of my southern accent for one post. XD

Hello! I hope you’re all doing well!

Recently my camera has been in full use, almost daily. The weather has provided some lovely shots, from rain, to snow, to heat, to MORE rain, to more heat, and things finally starting to bloom, it’s been fun to experiment!

I’ve enjoyed using Canva to edit and adjust my photos, it’s such a great site!

One thing I’ve been wanting to really work on this year is nighttime photography. I understand my settings, but for some reason night photos were always reeeeaaally dark. I’ve just started to figure it out, so here are some shots from that!

My Envelopes Have… Hearts On Them? // Valentine’s Envelope Art

The Hearts Are Everywhere!

GGRRREEEETTTIIINNGGGSSS!!

Valentine’s day is near, and while it’s not a heavily celebrated holiday here, I did want to make a few envelopes that resembled the day.

Most of them were quite simple. This one below I did little hearts all over a brown envelope, but I wanted a bit more color. I’ve been really liking the look of torn edges (well, it depends what it’s on. XD) so I tore a bit of pink scrapbook paper and used double-sided tape to apply it to the middle. I ripped a few pieces of washi tape and added it in various areas of the ripped paper, for a bit more color. I addressed it on the scrapbook paper, too.

I’ve been doing this in different colors and shapes, too, it’s really cute and fun!

IMG_0144

I did a similar thing for this envelope. I took a lot of peach/pink colors and went a teensy bit crazy with hearts (heh), and since it was a cream envelope, I tore a piece of sketchbook paper (white) and used double-sided tape to apply. I added some black washi tape for a bit of contrast and also some gold stickers.

IMG_0142

I wanted a bit more of a simple approach, so I just used big letters in silver and then used a lot of different heart stickers I had. I think this turned out cute and I like that some of them are the puffy stickers and you can feel the different shapes.

IMG_0155

This next envelope is mainly lettering, with the addition of some hanging hearts. My favorite part of this is how easy it was. I just continued some of the lines on her name into hearts. I also put the address in between her first and last name, for fun.

IMG_0269

aaaAAAhh.. I went a bit wild. XD

This one I started out with her name and did a bit of a gradient and a drop shadow. I needed to add something to the left so that it would even out everything, so that’s why there’s one massive red heart over there. (:

I thought it would be fun to do “confetti” hearts around the name. What do you think?

IMG_0147

Heh, I also used a clear glitter Gelly Roll pen to add shimemr to the big heart.. because… because…IMG_0148

This was a throwback to last year’s Valentine’s day post, (go check it out!) though, instead of a 3D paper look I used some red felt/foam paper to do the heart balloon. I also added some clouds.

I went with a more elegant lettering style; I quite like the outcome!

IMG_0153

I went very simple with this one, a heart shaped balloon and brush lettering. I like how simple and cute it became.

IMG_0159

I made another “hanging heart” illustration. I made a wreath shape and just went around and around with a black pen and then threw in some hearts. This turned out one of my favorites. (:

IMG_0267

On the back of one of the envelopes I did some more hanging hearts from the seal of the letter down. Simple, but fun!

IMG_0270

I thought crystals might be fun, not necessarily Valentine’s themed, but pink and purple(:

IMG_0271

ALAS! HURRAH! The snow came to GA for a day and a half, so here are a few pictures from that. It snowed four days ago and was gone the next day. Guess what? it’s 64º right now. *flabbergasted*

Making Your Letters More Autumnal // + A Mini Photoshoot

HI THERE!

I was starting to write a letter today after I bought a few things at Hobby Lobby (“the Hob Lob” as we call it) and I wanted to make it very fallish. It seems like Christmas is just around the corner, a few people I know have decorated! So I definitely want to squeeze as much fall in as I can.

Letter writing is a great way to do that!

I though I would share with y’all some of the small things that make your letters pop with the seasons in simple ways.

NO. 1 Toned card + envelopes

Hobby Lobby, one of my favorite places, has a nice selection of packeted cards and envelopes. They have these nice rectangular brown ones there now (50%, too!) that I got earlier. They’re a nice difference from the regular white, and when you do reds and oranges on them, the brown looks so nice and fallish!

IMG_8708

NO. 2 Colored pens

these are a great way to make your cards and envelopes pop and immediately remind you of fall. I always go for reds, oranges, browns and greens.

Below: Tombow Dual Brush Pens

IMG_8714.JPG

I made a quick, simple card using the bullet end of a dual brush pen for the words and the brush end for the leaves.

IMG_8713.JPG
Sorry this is blurry! My back screen wouldn’t show that well before I put it in the envelope!

I got those two front plaid wash tapes at Hobby Lobby earlier. I thought the would be fun to use through the fall and winter months in my bullet journal and on letters.

NO. 3 Tapes or stickers

These are affordable, long-lasting touches for your letters. The fun patterns and widths are just so fun to see on envelopes in the mailbox, and they’re fun to put on everything.

IMG_8711.JPG

NO. 4 Tiny tidbits and fun things

Fall themed stickers, papers, poems, Artist Trading Cards (ATC’s), paintings, cutouts, etc. are fun touches to put inside a letter when it doesn’t seem like enough. There is usually always some fun little thing to add a little more joy to the letter when it is opened.

IMG_8718.JPG

NO. 5 Colorful envelopes

I kept the envelope pretty simple, but the reds and the plaid make it stand out. You can draw a box around the address in bright colors, paint, sketch, anything. It’s so fun to personalize the mail!

IMG_8719.JPG

The last thing I got from the good ‘ole Hob Lob was a new wax seal stamp. The whole stamp pin came off of my old one, so I figured I should upgrade(: I got the heart stamp, and I really like it!

NO. 6 Wax seals

These are my favorite part. I don’t do it every time, but I really enjoy choosing the colors. (I bought this from Amazon. Great buy!)

I used a gold over the wide plaid washout tape I got. It turned out pretty! A very simple and easy way to make your envelope fancy and pretty.

IMG_8722.JPG

IMG_8726.JPG

I hope y’all enjoyed that! It was something I had on my mind to share, it was fun!

Now, I attempted to take some portrait photography for my blog for a new Gravatar image and such, but I ended up having to recruit my brother. It’s really hard to get it to be focused perfectly on a tripod and ten-second timer!

This was one I took by myself. It turned out good, but I kept getting the washed-out background (upper left), so I called good ‘ole Evan.

IMG_8539

I think he did pretty good! It was a frigid windy day, so camera shake and all was hard to avoid, BUT THE LIGHT! ♥

IMG_8543

This one probably turnout the best out of all of them. My hair was being wiped all ’round!

These leaves were so pretty!

IMG_8528.JPG

He attempted to catch me mid-hairflip, but alas, no good….

IMG_8545.JPG

…AH! There we go. XD *applauds brother generously*

IMG_8547.JPG

Oh, you know, just your every-day stride in the midst a field. (;

Is it a bird? no, a plane! It’s AUDREY KATE! The severely ungraceful land-skater! 😂

IMG_8564.JPG

Maisy trudged through the woods to join us when we were walking back. She didn’t know she would be in a picture, though! Hehe. (She wasn’t that grateful…)

I hope you all are having a DEEElightful evening!

Cassia’s Contest, FINAL DAY! // The Country Living Fair, 2019 // Poll

Hi there!

Today is the final day of Cassia’s photo contest. It has been fun! Unfortunately, I missed a few days, but I caught up HERE. Check it out!

Today’s final prompt: BOOKS

YES! Books!

IMG_1267

Thank you, Cassia, for hosting this contest! It was so fun.

WELL… We recently went to the Country Living Fair not far from us in Stone Mountain, Ga. It was so fun! It was supposed to rain, but it remained fallishly cool and overcast, we couldn’t argue!

The Country Living Fair consists of food trucks, vendors containing things from the magazine, clothes, house things, vintage things, art, rugs, and all at Stone Mountain. We walked around the winding pathways and stopped at the different pop-ups.

We also got sick from the various cinnamon sugar pecans that might’ve been purchased for the pleasure of the taste buds. Mmm mm. (They’re GREAT)

There were some lovely paintings and artsy things. How pretty!

IMG_0015.JPG

There was this one vendor that had these beautiful butterflies. Look at that middle one!

IMG_0018.JPG

This was a degree from 1930 by Emory University hospital (right here in ATL!). I thought it was so neat! Mr. Mclaren Johnson. SO cool!

IMG_0020.JPG

This rocking horse looked very interested in his job. XD

IMG_0021.JPG

I loved the vintage postal boxes! I thought about getting some for my letters, but vintage prices weren’t quite in my reach(:

IMG_0029.JPG

AH! Vintage cameras!

IMG_0038.JPG

Look at this Kodak! I would like to take pictures with one of these. They’re so cute!

IMG_0039.JPG

On one of the loops there were vintage campers set up to look inside. I didn’t get good photos of the inside, but they had pink cabinets! AH!

IMG_0044.JPG

I kept trying to get photos of mirrors. Heh, it was hard! XD

I hope you enjoyed seeing photos from the fair! It was so fun.

I hope your day is wonderful!

A Few Words // Cassia’s Photo Contest! Day 1. // A tag from Clara

Hello!

It’s actually cold. We’ve got the heat on. We set out the chipped pumpkin flower pot. And I’m wearing my yard sale striped bunny socks.

It must not be Summer any more.

Well, I haven’t done many posts where I’m just talking and talking for many a word until I say “I guess that’s good for now,” So Today’s The Day™. (Does it seem right that I just pictured myself as some sort of interesting looking superhero then? Teeheehee)

So, starting out, may I just say….

I’ve abandoned Inktober.

I know, I deserve the shaming shake-of-the-head, but it really wasn’t my thing, you know? The prompts just weren’t my style, aand I wasn’t really enjoying it like I ought. (Does the, “like I ought” strangely remind you of Little Women like it does me?)

I’m still drawing every day for the rest of this month, but the prompts are out the window and crushed under a moving car. (Wow, no need to be harsh, Audrey!) Anyway, I guess I’m still technically “doing” Inktober, but promptless.

I’m trying to get back in the rhythm of drawing more realistically, so I’ve been working on eyes. They’re a fun thing to draw and paint.

Yippee! Today’s the first day of Cassia’s photo contest, and the “prompt” today was door. Now, you wouldn’t believe the puzzle I had this morning taking a picture of doors. It was a fun challenge, though! Our door handles were a fun shape and color against our sage colored doors.

10 things that make me happy tag.png
From Clara’s blog. Cuuutteee!

Clara was so sweet to tag me for the “10 THINGS THAT MAKE ME HAPPY TAG” and what better time to do it?

Rules: List 10 things that make you happy. (Linking to them, sharing pictures, writing poems about them, telling jokes, etc. are all encouraged but not required.) Then, tag 10 people who make you happy (and notify them of their tag).

No. 1: Maisy Lou Hoo (Maisy (: )

Maisy makes me so happy, when she’s jumping in the air, snoring, or ferociously biting my ankles (for fun, of course, I think… maybe…).

So, life is busy. Does it seem like it just gets busier and busier as you get older? I know I’ve talked about this before, but time is such a gift. I’m putting some elbow grease into working on savoring every moment as I am now, a teenage girl.

Side note…

IT’S HARD!

Sometimes we look forward to something and look forward to something, that we rush away the days that matter more. Now, that’s a bit extreme, but still, I remember times when I would be dying for Christmas to come, and Thanksgiving and things that mattered would be trampled under my Santa’s elf slippers. I mean, wow.

I even had a Rudolph costume, complete with a harness with bells and a red nose. Mmm. (Being ten, ya know? XD)

The remaining slice of October is quite jam-packed, but I like it.

I am doing a lot of school now that I’m in High school, but we still get up at the crack of dawn to go yardsaling on Fridays and Saturdays. Hey, it’s economics class! (:

Doesn’t it seem like the plural of “Moose” would be “Meese,” like “Goose” is “Geese?” Hmm.

I miss Morty the moose!

The color is still here, but, luckily, its’ cool now. The mornings have been in the 40º’s!

Do you like cold weather?

Well, this is nearing 1,000 words, a length of posts I haven’t done in awhile, so this has been fun! Do you enjoy a variety of things in a post, or just one topic? I can’t decide. I think I like reading both.

What do you have coming up this week?

Look back for a few days to see my photography for Cassia’s contest. I’m looking forward to the different shots I’m going to take! It’s going to time out perfectly for some of the shots, we’re going to Peachtree City (near Atlanta) and Stone Mountain for the Country Living Fair (post coming!).

I hope you’re having a wonderful day, and I can’t wait to see if you’re doing the tag!

Do you like batman? Do you have striped bunny socks? What’s your favorite part of Autumn? Do you say “Meese?” Can you drive?

P.S. Exactly 1,000 words!
